Singer Fusion Thread

Is it just me?  My Singer Fusion thread spools keep disintegrating like this.
They start out nice like the ones on the top, but seem to develop brittle spool disease.  With the slightest pressure, the tops of the spools start breaking and crumbling like the one on the bottom.  I've already thrown out a couple rather than risk getting those bits of plastic into the innards of my machine.  Those that haven't broken are used with a REALLY light touch now to avoid damaging them.  It's not that these spools are that old--can't be more than a year or two.

That said, the thread itself is fine.  I don't get much lint from it even when I've used it for machine embroidery.  I also like the colors.  Just wondering if anyone else is having this problem with the spools.

  1. I've never seen that happen before - maybe you got a bad batch of spools (what an odd thing to say, eh?)?

  2. Wonder if they could be saved with some coats of nail polish on those crumbly parts? Also maybe try using a spool stand for big spools. That way hopefully the crumbles would shed before getting to your machine. I've never seen this happen to spools.

  3. I've never seen this before and I have thread that's 30 years old, although I have never used Singer Fusion thread. I'd definitely be keeping them away from my machine.

  4. Yes! Me! I have 1 spool of fusion and it is crumbled away. I was looking for info about this thread and stumbled on this blog post about it. Good to know you've found it lint free and have used it for embroidery.
